How can educators effectively meet the challenges that accompany the nation's difficult economic conditions? What will be the direction for education with the new Obama administration? Those are some of the questions addressed by Dr. Daniel A. Domenech, executive director of the Association of School Administrators (AASA), who is featured on DistrictLeadersPodcast.com, a Web site that provides a lively, informative and easily accessible forum for school superintendents and other educational leaders. In the podcast, Domenech discusses "Maintaining a solid foundation on the eve of a new administration."

Domenech talks about the strong and visible role the AASA plans to play in Washington. He says of recent discussions with members of the new administration, "there's a feeling that comprehensive education has been forgotten" and that there will be some changes in the not-too-distant future. "I get the sense that we're going to see a significant shift in policy relevant to education," he shares in the Podcast.

Before joining AASA, Domenech served as senior vice president of the Urban Advisory Resource for McGraw-Hill Education, where he was responsible for building strong relationships with large school districts nationwide. Previously, Domenech served as superintendent of the Fairfax County, Va., Public Schools. Before Fairfax, he was superintendent of schools for Deer Park Schools (Long Island, N.Y.) and the South Huntington School District, also on Long Island. From 1994 to 1997, Domenech was district superintendent of the Second Supervisory District of Suffolk County and chief executive officer of the Western Suffolk BOCES. He is also a past president of the New York State Council of School Superintendents and currently serves on the boards of the Institute for Educational Leadership and the Education Policy Institute.
