Wright Group/McGraw-Hill Names New Publisher, Adds Experienced Editor to Team

The elementary school publisher Wright Group/McGraw-Hill has appointed Stephen Mico as vice president, publisher and Marianne Hiland as vice president, group editorial director, literacy.
Mr. Mico will be responsible for directing the editorial and product development operations for all Wright Group product lines, including literacy, mathematics, secondary, and adult education subject areas. The Wright Group is widely known for its Everyday Mathematics program used by more than 3 million students in 185,000 classrooms across the United States and for its rich array of supplemental literacy products.
As vice president, group editorial director, literacy, Ms. Hiland will be responsible for creating publishing plans and developing product for non- mathematics product lines such as Wright Skills, DLM Early Childhood Express, and Contemporary Books.

Before joining the Wright Group/McGraw-Hill, Mr. Mico served as the founding publisher of National Geographic School Publishing. From 1996 to 1999, he was a major contributor to the Everyday Learning, former publisher of Wright Group's successful Everyday Mathematics program, as vice president of development and publisher. Mr. Mico also served as a sales consultant and editor for several national educational publishers and taught in the elementary grades for seven years. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of California and completed his graduate work in educational administration at the University of San Francisco. Mr. Mico resides in Chicago, Ill.,
Most recently, Ms. Hiland was editor-in-chief for National Geographic School Publishing. She has held editorial management positions for several publishers and served as a teacher and reading specialist before starting her career in school publishing. She holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania and had done graduate work at Simmons College in Boston. She lives in Wilmette, Ill.
