Two Things We Learned About College Students From the McGraw-Hill Education 2016 Workforce Readiness Survey

NEW YORK, July 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In this video, McGraw-Hill Education's Group President for U.S. Education, Peter Cohen, explains two important things he learned from the 2016 Workforce Readiness Survey.

The third annual survey of 1,350 college students, released in June, gathered student opinions on a variety of topics, including: their satisfaction with their college experience, whether their college or their major of choice is helping them prepare for careers, how much cost affects their decision-making and more.

Cohen highlights two big headlines from the survey and explains why they're important:

1) Only 40 percent of college students feel college has been very helpful in preparing them for careers. What can colleges to do help more students feel ready for the next step?

2) 62 percent of students reported that, if community college were free, they would attend community college before or instead of the college they currently attend. Could community colleges do a better job showcasing the value they provide?

The goal of the Workforce Readiness Survey is to learn what students are doing to prepare for the transition to the workforce, how they view their early career goals and how effective they find the collegiate experience to be as preparation for the next step.
