NEW YORK, March 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Education today announced the appointment of media and information industry veteran Mark Dorman as president of McGraw-Hill Education International. Mr. Dorman will help drive McGraw-Hill Education's mission of becoming a global digital learning company by capitalizing on the company's product development expertise across markets and combining those capabilities with the regional insight and distribution network of its international operations. Most recently, Mr. Dorman served as president and chief executive officer of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business.

Philip Ruppel, who has led both McGraw-Hill Education's international operations and professional business since June 2012, will continue to serve as president of McGraw-Hill Professional, a position he has held since 2007. The appointment of Mr. Dorman comes at a time when McGraw-Hill Education has increasingly turned its focus toward opportunities in global markets.

"As McGraw-Hill Education moves forward as a new, standalone company, one of our main areas of focus is becoming a truly global enterprise," said Buzz Waterhouse, president and chief executive officer of McGraw-Hill Education. "Mark Dorman is the right person to bring the trusted content, technology and services that McGraw-Hill Education is known for to markets around the world."

"Improving education and results for students around the world is one of the most important issues we face, and with McGraw-Hill Education's legacy of producing great content and reputation as a trusted partner and developer of some of the best technology in the world, it's a challenge I'm eager to accept," said Mr. Dorman.

Mr. Dorman brings a range of experience in international business management and the development of digital solutions to his position. As president and chief executive officer of Wolters Kluwer Law & Business, he oversaw significant business growth in terms of improved revenue, profit margins, and the accelerated development of market-leading digital products and services in core markets. Before taking the role of president and chief executive officer at Wolters Kluwer, Mr. Dorman served as vice president of the company's Legal Markets Group, responsible for overall strategy, business development and sales and marketing. Prior to Wolters Kluwer, he was head of global product management at Gartner Inc. and head of strategy for LexisNexis UK, a unit of Reed Elsevier.

Mr. Dorman will be based in McGraw-Hill Education's offices in New York. A graduate of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, Mr. Dorman also served as an officer in the British Army's Corps of Royal Military Police.
