SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 25, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Recognizing mobile will continue to emerge as a core component of next-generation educational technologies and experiences. Tegrity, a unit of McGraw-Hill Higher Education, today unveiled multiple new mobile enhancements to its lecture capture solution, Tegrity Campus. For the first time, both students and instructors can record content wherever and whenever they choose on their Apple iOS or Android mobile devices.
Now more than ever, today's professors are turning to mobile devices to present course material in new ways that engage their students and reinforce learning. Moreover, students today respond favorably to using their mobile device as a classroom tool from downloading tutoring apps to setting up text reminders for assignments.
The Tegrity Mobile App allows students and faculty the flexibility to access course content and recorded lectures anytime, anywhere. Today's Tegrity Campus launch now allows users to record any outside content from tutorials to group presentations to demonstrations outside the classroom or campus - wherever their mobile device accompanies them.
For students, the new mobile capabilities will encourage more hands-on learning by providing users the flexibility to submit video assignments. The Mobile App can be used to capture any visual project such as group presentations, public speaking, science research or testing or foreign language comprehension and pronunciation.
For instructors, the Mobile App will bring essential outside field work into the classroom. For example, geosciences courses at Laramie County Community College integrate hands-on lab and field experiences with online learning through the usage of mobile phones, camcorders and lecture capture technology. Laramie County Community College Professor Trina Kilty has already started formalizing how she'll leverage Tegrity Campus' mobile recording features within her curriculum this fall.
"For a number of years, I've been teaching online geology courses and incorporating field work into the curriculum to bring to life the necessary scientific work outside the classroom for students. To do this, I've had to carry a separate recording device with me on trips and then upload the prepared videos to Tegrity, sometimes in multiple steps," said Professor Kilty. "I am excited to use the new mobile features in Tegrity Campus. It will help streamline the process of recording field work and instead of carrying multiple devices with me. I can now record field work and laboratory activities directly on my smartphone. I've already begun to incorporate a field activity into my class schedule for the fall using Tegrity's new mobile recorder."
In addition to capturing outside field work and demonstrations for science and math courses, the Tegrity Mobile App will open a new world of learning for students studying liberal arts such as literature, art history or philosophy, allowing the instructor to integrate mobile videos from museums or theatrical performances.
"We go everywhere with our phones and getting online, capturing photos and taking video has never been easier with today's smart phones. With Tegrity Campus, both faculty and students can capitalize on these mobile capabilities and re-write the textbook in terms of how we present course content, submit assignments or conduct group projects in classrooms today," said Michael Berger, Senior Director of Marketing, Tegrity. "We're excited to unveil the mobile enhancements and can't wait to experience the unique and creative use cases our users will put into action.
