NEW YORK, April 2, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week, officials from the Department of Education and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) brought together leaders from the digital education industry to formulate a unified strategy for moving America's K-12 classrooms into the digital age.

Among the education and technology industry leaders to take part in the Digital Textbooks Initiative Meeting was Dan Caton, president of McGraw-Hill School Education.

"We are honored to have the opportunity to participate in this landmark meeting," said Mr. Caton after the meeting. "Implementing digital learning tools is critical to America's continued educational success, and we are encouraged that the FCC and the Department of Education have made digital adoption a national priority.

"As a pioneer of digital and adaptive learning technologies, we have seen the impact that digital learning can have on schools across the country. We're working with the entire education community - from teachers and administrators, to partner companies like Apple, Intel and Inkling, to parents and students - to develop the technology that engages and immerses students in their education, while preparing them for success in college, career, and beyond," Caton continued.

Led by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, the Federal Communications Commission & U.S. Department of Education Digital Textbooks Initiative Meeting is part of an ongoing initiative to spur national adoption of digital textbooks within the next five years. The working meeting addressed a wide spectrum of digital learning topics, including affordability, content, connectivity, device specifics, state policies, and transition strategies.
