PARIS, Texas, Jan. 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Three Advanced Placement seniors at Paris High School in Paris, Texas, who earned top broadcast journalism honors through a joint video competition with McGraw-Hill Education, are receiving additional recognition on McGraw-Hill's YouTube page, where their winning videos have been posted. In November, 30 seniors at the high school participated in a special pilot program of Writer's Workspace, a new all-digital writing course, which included a video competition component. McGraw-Hill provided the students with their own Flip video cameras and asked them to produce a two-minute segment about their experiences with Writer's Workspace.

The competition, which was judged by the high school's English and journalism instructors, resulted in three top-prize videos, announced at a special awards ceremony attended by Paris High School Principal Gary Preston and District Superintendent Paul Trull last month. Luke Lewis took home first place honors and received an iPad for his winning submission, and Mario Munguia and Travis Lee were each awarded an iPod Touch for their second and third place efforts. Honorable mentions went to students Dariana Reynolds, Tynia Porter, and Danny Martinez.

"We congratulate the winners of this video competition, which was designed to give students access to digital technology and encourage them to explore a creative method of storytelling," said Dan Caton, executive vice president of McGraw-Hill's School Education Group. "We're pleased with very positive results of this project and look forward to bringing Writer's Workspace to schools across the country later this year."

Writer's Workspace was rolled out in Texas at the end of last year and will be available in other states, in both high schools and middle schools, this year. Writer's Workspace is a fully integrated online language arts program for middle and high school students, designed specifically to engage students in the writing process through rigorous writing and grammar instruction.
