McGraw-Hill Education joins with reading and language arts educators worldwide in mourning the passing of author Edward Fry, who died earlier this month. Dr. Fry, a Jamestown Reading (McGraw-Hill) author and long-time Rutgers University professor, was internationally known as developer of the Fry Readability Graph, which is used by teachers, publishers and others to judge the difficulty of books and other text-based materials.
"Ed Fry served McGraw-Hill's Jamestown Reading and Contemporary Books divisions for more than 35 years, as an author, co-author and consultant," said William Oldsey, executive vice president of McGraw-Hill Education. "His extensive contributions as a scholar, author, and researcher helped revolutionize how teachers teach and students learn reading and language arts, from the primary grades through college. As an educator, his enduring lessons will continue to guide and inspire instructors and drive their students' achievement."
