What is the formula for primary and secondary math success among today's diverse, digital learners? The answer: Everyday Mathematics + UCSMP Grades 6-12. For the first time ever, the prestigious University of Chicago School Mathematics Project (UCSMP) is offering a continuous Pre-K-12 math curriculum through a single publisher - McGraw-Hill - which includes Everyday MathematicsĀ® for Pre-K-6 students and UCSMP Grades 6-12 for middle school and high school students. This continuum of learning increases the consistency of how math is taught and successively builds mathematics skills and problem solving, reasoning and applications over the course of students' formative education, seeing them through to high school graduation and preparing them to be both college- and career-ready.

UCSMP and McGraw-Hill Education have been working together on Everyday Mathematics for more than a decade. The program is now in its third edition and used by more than 4 million students nationwide, making it the most popular math program in the U.S. Everyday Mathematics enables students to gain a core mathematical understanding that sets them up to become life-long mathematical thinkers and problem solvers. UCSMP Grades 6-12, also in its third edition, continues this philosophy for middle school and high school, with a connected and carefully sequenced curriculum that fully covers the most current national recommendations. The UCSMP curricula reflect more than 25 years of research, development and well-documented results.

"The University of Chicago School Mathematics Project and McGraw-Hill have a long history, strong partnership and excellent track record for success in mathematics achievement," said Zalman Usiskin, director of UCSMP. "We are delighted to offer a continuous Pre-K through 12th grade mathematics curriculum through a single publisher. This continuity offers numerous benefits for students, educators and parents."

A number of pillars of mathematics instruction are continuously present in UCSMP programs: active learning through games, activities and projects; content spiraling and integration that allows topics to be refreshed, reinforced and extended on an ongoing basis; reading to learn mathematics, which builds and strengthens students' abilities to read technical matter; up-to-date technology, an essential STEM skill that UCSMP programs build through the use of computers and calculators at a young age to help learn mathematics; and real-world problem solving to give math added meaning and relevance for students.

"Our programs with the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project are designed to make students more proficient and competitive in math on a global scale and well prepared academically and professionally for life after high school," said Arthur Block, senior vice president of McGraw-Hill School Education Group's STEM Learning Solutions Center. "We cannot underscore enough the importance of math and an overall STEM education in today's global economy, and we are confident that a continuous Pre-K-12 math program will greatly contribute to student achievement in math."

"Everyday Mathematics is the most researched and trusted elementary math curriculum in the United States," said Andy Isaacs, an Everyday Mathematics author who serves as the co-director of the University of Chicago's Center for Elementary Mathematics and Science Education and as a senior research associate in the university's Physical Sciences Division. "The University of Chicago prides itself on developing curricula thoroughly and carefully over time, with full field testing before publication and extensive verification of efficacy and continuous improvement after publication."

The UCSMP programs are already available in schools across the country.
