With the Texas State Board of Education's approval of all-new Texas reading and literature programs from McGraw-Hill School Education Group, Texas teachers will now have an unprecedented ability to differentiate instruction and provide students with a vertically aligned K-12 program.

The Board's recommendation puts McGraw-Hill Education's reading and literature programs on an approved program list for districts statewide beginning in the 2010-2011 school year. The McGraw-Hill Education programs include Grades K-5 reading programs Imagine It! and Texas Treasures and their Spanish language companion programs, Texas ¡Imaginalo! and Texas Tesoros de lectura. Also on the approved program list is Glencoe Literature: Texas Treasures, a literature program for Grades 6-12.

The McGraw-Hill Education programs put critical focus on helping students at all levels master the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). The research-based lessons build reading and language arts skills with interesting fiction and non-fiction. Tools like leveled readers, group activities, and technology components help teachers to engage all learners, including English Language Learners.

Leveraging the most innovative digital and print tools available, McGraw-Hill Education's Texas reading and literature programs give teachers the resources they need to help Texas students succeed on the revised TAKS and EOC and helps them master English Language Proficiency Standards and College and Career Readiness Standards.

"One of the leading concerns of teachers is being able to meet the needs of students with different skills. For Texas teachers, this is coupled with teaching the TEKS and ensuring student success on state tests," said Steve Mico, senior vice president of the McGraw-Hill Literacy & Humanities Learning Solutions Center.

"Imagine It! and the Texas Treasures reading and literature programs were built with Texas student achievement in mind. The digital and print-based components are designed to support the needs of a variety of learners and provide teachers with the tools and resources they need to inform instruction," Mico added.

With diagnostic and formative assessment integrated throughout the programs, Imagine It! and Texas Treasures will help Texas teachers plan and deliver instruction.

For time-saving support and enhanced student engagement, Texas Treasures and Glencoe Literature: Texas Treasures offers the teachers' editions and a new online portal, ConnectED, a Web-based platform that provides 24/7 access to the student and teacher materials and helps Texas teachers create and manipulate lesson plans correlated to the TEKS.

The Imagine It! Web-based eSuite provides digital lessons and supplements, online assessments and planning materials to help Texas teachers streamline their lessons.

Research-based techniques for English Language Learners are embedded throughout each program and integrated digital and print activities include rich background building activities and extensive vocabulary support. Texas ¡Imaginalo! and Texas Tesoros de lectura offer more extensive English Language Learner instruction.
