Educators needing special education and intervention materials for Tier 2 and Tier 3 can now access tailored solutions on the new InterventionResources.com, developed by SRA and Wright Group -- both divisions of McGraw-Hill Education.

The site includes resources on Response to Intervention (RtI) and a tool to help educators identify appropriate curriculum options for their students with special needs.

"This is a time of opportunity for educators, from special education teachers and intervention specialists to district administrators and curriculum managers, to invest in their students, especially those who need the most attention," said Dan Caton, president of SRA/McGraw-Hill and Wright Group/McGraw-Hill. "With proven strategies, we know these students can achieve great things. This online tool will help make that happen."

Toby Lane Adams, a special education teacher at Kynoch Elementary School in Marysville, Calif., noted the need for more differentiated instruction within special education. She said, "Before the Response to Intervention model, special education seemed to be a catch-all for all kids struggling. Now we understand that special education doesn't have to look the same way for every student. Instead, now we have better diagnosis so we can apply the correct intervention."

About Direct Instruction

Direct Instruction programs include methods and approaches documented by research to work with at-risk and special education populations. Research has shown that students with special needs learn most effectively with direct and explicit teaching of skills. Data from independent research confirms that even students who would be predicted to have low levels of achievement benefit greatly from Direct Instruction. Well-known Direct Instruction programs include: Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading, and Language for Learning.
