Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe Symposium Highlights Cutting Edge Technology for K-12 Science Administrators

District science administrators from across the country came together to network, share ideas, and learn about new technologies at a Science Symposium hosted by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe January 30 - 31, 2009. The event was held at the University of Michigan in Dearborn, and hosted in conjunction with the university's Teacher Academy.

Dr. Richard H. Moyer and Dr. JoAnne Vasquez, nationally recognized leaders in science education and authors of Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe science programs, addressed the group about the use of innovative digital tools to strengthen science teaching and learning. Leading technology companies gave demonstrations of key technologies and led discussions about best practices for classroom implementation.

Smaller group sessions covered a range of topics including interactive whiteboards, student polling technologies, online professional development, Web-based science content, digital imaging in the classroom, and more.

Attendees indicated an overwhelming appreciation for the opportunity to "test drive" some of the newest technologies all in one setting. Dr. Moyer commented, "It was extremely helpful for the attendees to see the digital tools in action and then have practical discussions with other administrators about how to best implement the technology in today's classroom."
