SRA/McGraw-Hill Supports California's English Learners with State-Approved Imagine It! ELD Program

Imagine It! English Language Development (ELD) is a new reading and language arts program from SRA/McGraw-Hill published specifically for California elementary students learning English. It was recently approved by the California State Board of Education for adoption in Grades K-6.

"About 25 percent of California students are bilingual or have a first language other than English," said Ruth Cochrane, publisher of the Imagine It! series. "According to some reports, the challenges faced by English-language learners will make it extremely difficult for many California elementary schools to reach academic proficiency targets. By starting now to address the needs of the growing ELD population through curriculum such as Imagine It! ELD, this issue could be corrected."

Imagine It! ELD supports students' development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills and helps them make connections between skills, strategies, and standards that they can apply to larger contexts.
