California Treasures, Macmillan/McGraw-Hill's K-6 Reading and Language Arts Program, Approved by State

The California State Department of Education has approved Macmillan/McGraw-Hill's elementary reading and language arts program, California Treasures, for the 2008 Reading/Language Arts-English-Language Development adoption list.

"This program represents the latest research and knowledge in elementary language arts instruction. California Treasures is a comprehensive reading and language arts program for Grades K-6 that includes differentiated instruction, an English language development program, writing support, and classroom management resources. This digital and print solution was developed to meet California standards and reflects extensive input from California teachers.

Written specifically to follow the state's revised English language arts standards, California Treasures incorporates an English language development (ELD) component to assist students transitioning from Spanish. For further EL support, California Treasures English Language Development provides an additional 60 minutes of ELD instruction.

In addition, California Tesoros de lectura, a parallel K-6 reading and language arts program in Spanish, provides side-by-side Spanish and English instruction in the teacher's edition and utilizes engaging authentic Spanish literature in the student edition with appropriate phonics instruction to ground Spanish speaking students in reading skills and experiences.
