Math Connects, a vertically aligned PreK-8 basal math program from Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe, has been recommended as one of the approved core math curriculum programs for 2009-2010 in North Carolina, Grades K-5, and in South Carolina, Grades K-8.

Each fall the North Carolina Textbook Commission and the South Carolina Materials Evaluation Panel recommend complete listings of textbooks and other instructional materials to their state's Board of Education. Textbooks are recommended for adoption based on their specific criteria including compatibility with each state's standards. The recommendation for Math Connects was unanimous in North Carolina (18-0); the program received a high rating in South Carolina as well.

After careful study and research, Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe customized Math Connects to align with each state's specific standards for Grades K-8, such as mathematical processes, numbers and operation, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis and probability.

Not only does each state's Math Connects program specifically align to their respective standards, the curriculum also sets a new standard in mathematics instruction and provides complete solutions for teachers and students, including digital resources, problem solving, concept development, and differentiated instruction.

Math Connects was built with two goals in mind: success at each grade level and future student success in Algebra I and beyond. This is supported by a recent College Board study, which found that nearly 80 percent of students who successfully complete Algebra I and Geometry by Grade 10 will succeed in college. These findings were consistent for students of every ethnic and socioeconomic background.

For additional support, the program is horizontally aligned with two programs developed with funds from the National Science Foundation to give teachers and administrators additional tools to help meet assessment goals: IMPACT Mathematics, a research-based math program for Grades K-8, and Mathscape: Seeing and Thinking Mathematically, a comprehensive math program for Grades 6-8.
