The National Center for Education Research recently released a report on the Preschool Curriculum Evaluation Research (PCER) initiative that shows Wright Group/McGraw-Hill's DLM Early Childhood Express supplemented with SRA/McGraw-Hill's Open Court Reading Pre-K has positive effects on reading, phonological awareness, and language in Pre-K - Kindergarten.

The report, "Effects of Preschool Curriculum Programs on School Readiness," provides individual results for 14 different preschool curriculums. The goal of the PCER study was to identify the impact of each curriculum on five student-level outcomes (reading, phonological awareness, language, mathematics, and behavior) and six classroom-level outcomes (classroom quality, teacher-child interaction, and four types of instruction).

The study shows integrating the research-based instruction from Open Court Reading Pre-K with the comprehensive instructional framework of DLM Early Childhood Express, gives children instruction with a strong foundation in oral language and print awareness as well as research-based instruction in phonics and early decoding and comprehension skills.

"It is a priority for us to continue to find a way to show teachers positive data on our programs, like the study done by the National Center for Education Research," said Dan Caton, president of McGraw-Hill Learning Group, which includes SRA and Wright Group. "We believe that programs like DLM Early Childhood Express and Open Court Reading Pre-K build a strong foundation when used in Pre-K - Kindergarten."
