Veteran School Board Administrator, Arthur Griffin, to Lead McGraw-Hill Education Urban Advisory Resource Group

McGraw-Hill Education today announced the promotion of Arthur Griffin Jr. to senior vice president, McGraw-Hill Urban Advisory Resource. The Urban Advisory Resource is a team of experts that works with large urban districts across the country to help them provide better quality instruction, curriculum and assessment to their students. Mr. Griffin will be responsible for leading McGraw-Hill Education's efforts to meet the growing and evolving needs of the districts the group serves.

Griffin has been invited by school boards across the country to share his advice on governance issues and strategic planning. He has also consulted with numerous superintendents on the importance of creating better working relationships between superintendents and board members.
Prior to joining McGraw-Hill Education in 2004, Mr. Griffin served as the chairman of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg, North Carolina Board of Education. Griffin has a long history of community involvement and advocacy with a particular focus on implementing solutions to improve education in North Carolina and nationally.
Mr. Griffin was a member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board for more than 17 years and served as its chair from 1997 to 2002. He also served as: a member of the Executive Committee of the Council of the Great City Schools and chairman of its Professional Development Task Force; a member of the Steering Committee of the National Council of Urban Boards of Education; and a resident faculty member of the Broad Institute for School Board Members. In addition, he has also been a regular guest lecturer at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education.
Griffin has a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from The University of the State of New York at Albany. He is also a Vietnam veteran and a retired lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army.
