For Los Angeles middle school and high school educators seeking to build greater continuity into their math curricula, the search begins and ends with McGraw-Hill Education (MHE). MHE is the only educational publisher with programs listed in LAUSD from middle school through Geometry and Algebra, as well as intervention programs for grades 4-7.
The McGraw-Hill Education curricula selected are published by the divisions Macmillan/McGraw-Hill, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, and SRA/McGraw-Hill. These programs represent a comprehensive, combination print and digital solution completely customized to meet California standards.
The programs from Glencoe/McGraw-Hill listed by the district are: -- Glencoe California Mathematics: Concepts, Skills & Problem Solving (for Grades 6-7 Basic Mathematics) -- California Algebra Readiness: Concepts, Skills & Problem Solving -- Glencoe California Algebra 1: Concepts, Skills & Problem Solving -- Discrete Mathematics and Its Applications -- California Geometry: Concepts and Applications
"These programs provide students and teachers with a completely integrated and standards-aligned print and digital curriculum built with two goals in mind: success at each grade level and future student success in Algebra I and beyond," said Steve McClung, president of School Solutions Group, which includes Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe. "The importance of student achievement in middle and high school math is supported by a College Board study, which found that nearly 80 percent of students who successfully complete Algebra I and Geometry by Grade 10 succeed in college," he added.
Glencoe's programs incorporate the latest technology to help guide and facilitate instruction. TeacherWorks Plus™ offers teachers flexible lesson planning options and easily customizable support materials. Los Angeles students and their parents will have access to StudentWorks Plus™, an interactive program, which provides digital California study resources including daily assignments and grades, animations, interactive logs, videos, and links to the Glencoe Online Learning Center including the complete online student edition, self-check quizzes, test practice, and more.
In addition, two McGraw-Hill intervention programs have been listed: California Math Triumphs from Macmillan/McGraw-Hill and Glencoe/McGraw-Hill and SRA Number Worlds® developed by SRA/McGraw-Hill.
California Math Triumphs is an intensive intervention program designed to enable teachers to deliver flexible instruction targeted to student needs. Progress monitoring throughout California Math Triumphs ensures that struggling students receive the necessary instruction to move to on-level performance.
SRA Number Worlds® is an intervention math program that focuses on students who are one or more grade levels behind in mathematics. Educators are provided with all tools necessary to assess students' abilities, individualize instruction, build foundational skills and concepts, and make learning fun.
"McGraw-Hill Education offers an array of curricula to support all learning needs, as is evident by the variety of our programs listed by Los Angeles Unified School District," said Dan Caton, president of SRA/McGraw- Hill. "We are proud to deliver a solution for those students who need extra support in math. SRA Number Worlds® can help boost their test scores, and more importantly, their confidence in their math abilities."
Teachers who use McGraw-Hill's California mathematics programs have access to an extensive selection of professional development. Teachers will be able to access this training online 24/7 from home or school through the McGraw- Hill Professional Development web site. The customized modules are designed to support teachers in the key areas of mathematics content, classroom instruction, classroom management, and assessment.
