McGraw-Hill Professional Launches Drug Effectiveness Resource on AccessPharmacy

McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of information resources for the scientific and medical communities, today announced the addition of a robust new drug effectiveness reference to its comprehensive online pharmacy education resource, AccessPharmacy (www.accesspharmacy.com). Through an alliance with Doctor Evidence, developer of distributed databases generated from clinical studies, AccessPharmacy now provides in-context access to drug efficacy data via effectiveness statements, generated from actual clinical endpoints in published clinical studies, for over 500 common diseases and the 300 most commonly prescribed medications.
Seamlessly integrated into AccessPharmacy's intuitive interface, the Doctor Evidence statements translate rigorous meta-analyses of published clinical studies into clear, actionable statements. Users simply search for a brand name or generic drug topic, select an associated outcome or adverse effect, and view a straightforward sentence summarizing the available evidence. The statements are also organized according to disease, giving users the ability to start from a list of the most common medications prescribed for a given condition and then narrow down to outcomes or adverse effects. In all cases, effectiveness statements include links to the associated studies and abstracts. The effectiveness statements supplement the integrated drug database already available on AccessPharmacy.
"In light of the increasing focus on patient care for pharmacists and pharmacy educators, drug effectiveness statements provide a crucial new tool for reaching evidence-based recommendations," says Scott Grillo, medical publisher, McGraw-Hill Professional. "By making this data available on AccessPharmacy, we combine the best in educational resources through titles such as "Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach" with actionable knowledge regarding efficacy."
Doctor Evidence regularly updates its efficacy oriented Drug Awareness Database ("DAD") of over 2,600 randomized controlled trials and 7,500 unique clinical outcomes to ensure access to the most critical and current data. Physicians with expertise in evidence-based medicine, medical librarians, and information technology experts oversee the meta-analysis algorithms and routines that generate the effectiveness statements to ensure validity.
