McGraw-Hill Education, a leading global provider of electronic and print products for the pre-K through 12th grade, higher education and professional markets, has announced that its online learning content won awards in two categories of the Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) 23rd Annual Codie Awards competition. The awards honor outstanding achievement and vision in the software, digital content, and education technology industries. SIIA announced the winners of the 2008 Codie Awards at a gala dinner in San Francisco on May 20.

McGraw-Hill Online Learning won the awards for the Best Postsecondary Course or Learning Management Solution category and the Best Postsecondary Instructional Solution category. The awards were accepted at the SIIA event by Jeff Schultz, vice president, Learning Solutions, McGraw-Hill Higher Education.

Individuals who voted in the first round of judging included journalists from industry trade publications, technology writers from general news publications, consultants, and other industry experts. SIIA members voted in the second and third rounds of the selection process.

"These awards underscore McGraw-Hill's ability to deliver the very best educational services to students and educators through the use of cutting-edge technology and high-quality, authoritative content," said Ed Stanford, president, McGraw-Hill Higher Education. "Online instruction is becoming an integral part of today's university system, and McGraw-Hill Higher Education, with these award-winning online courses and an array of other digital offerings, is at the forefront of this trend."

McGraw-Hill Higher Education now offers more than 50 online undergraduate courses in a variety of academic disciplines, ranging from basic studies in Psychology and Anatomy/Physiology to complete programs in Criminal Justice and Allied Health. More than a dozen institutions, including Arizona State University, Louisiana State University, Penn State University, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, have adopted McGraw-Hill Higher Education's online course content and have begun integrating it into their own course offerings.

"The 2008 Codie Awards recognize those companies providing the best new technology products and services across a broad array of industries," noted SIIA President Ken Wasch. "The awards and their winners are a testament to the power of technology to deliver innovative solutions to businesses and consumers. SIIA congratulates all of the Codie Award winners and nominees, whose innovation is essential to the global knowledge economy."

Established in 1986, the Codie Awards is the longest-running awards program in the software and information industry. Through a combination of journalist and peer review, the program recognizes outstanding products and services in 75 categories. This year's 340 Codie Awards finalists represent an impressive array of technology and business excellence and success, selected from more than 1,100 nominations submitted by more than 600 companies.

About the Codie Awards

In 1986, the Excellence in Software Awards program was established by the Software Publishers Association (SPA), now the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), so that the pioneers of the then-nascent software industry could evaluate and honor each other's work. In 1993, the Excellence in Software Awards became the Codie Awards. Since its inauguration, the Codie Awards program has carried forward the same vision -- to showcase the software and information industry's finest products and services and to honor excellence for corporate achievement and philanthropic efforts. The Codie Awards holds the distinction of being the only peer-recognition awards program of its kind in the industry, providing a unique opportunity for companies to earn the praise of their competitors. As SIIA evolves to serve the needs of our members, the Codie Awards program, now in its twenty-first year, remains the standard bearer for celebrating outstanding achievement and vision in our industry.
