Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, the leading provider of print and digital educational materials for middle and secondary students, today announced the release of Glencoe Literature, a literature series for Grades 6-12. The series is a comprehensive collection of exceptional literature and engaging nonfiction with integrated skill development and targeted differentiated instruction.
Glencoe Literature engages students in the learning process through interesting literature and connected nonfiction. Research shows that students learn most effectively when what they read matters to them. To that end, Glencoe Literature includes high-interest, relevant content presented through inquiry-based Big Questions and Big Ideas in each unit. The carefully planned scope and sequence ensures all students are prepared for the demands of their grade level expectations and beyond.
"Big picture thinking is critical to students' development," said Steve McClung, president of McGraw-Hill School Solutions Group, which includes Glencoe. "Glencoe Literature uses literary selections to help students forge new bridges to broader ideas. When students make these connections, they form big picture conclusions and advanced thought processes about the world we live in."
To further motivate learning and help students with comprehension, technology is integrated throughout the program including an online student edition and StudentWorks™, which include links to videos, activities, animation, and graphic organizers.
Progress Reporter Online is an online assessment tool that provides teachers with robust reports on student performance.
Dinah Zykes' Foldables® activities are included at the beginning of each unit which gives students an opportunity to read and take notes as they progress through the unit. As they complete their reading, students are asked to refer to the notes on their Foldable® and are given a unique activity that allows them to think about the bigger ideas presented in the text.
All of the skills and strategies in Glencoe Literature are seamlessly integrated with and tied to the literature. This provides the necessary context for students to learn, and more importantly, to retain what they learned. Differentiated instruction strategies are offered throughout the Teacher Edition.
Online modules and DVD professional development support are available at all grade levels of the program.
