The Nevada Department of Education and The Grow Network/McGraw-Hill today announced the implementation of the Nevada Parent Network, a unique online system that provides parents with access to a variety of useful Nevada educational resources, grade-specific educational activities, and information about students' performance on state assessments. Developed by The Grow Network/McGraw-Hill, this "parental toolkit" will help Nevada parents easily review assessment results and stay involved with their students' learning and progress.
"This custom online system will build an important bridge between schools and families and give parents personalized educational resources to help them understand and support their students' learning needs," said Keith Rheault, Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction. "This fall, we will deliver secure and accurate assessment results online that clearly identify student achievement."
Families may go to the Nevada Parent Network now at www.NVParentNetwork.com to find general educational resources by grade level. The Grow Network/McGraw-Hill will collaborate with schools to provide Parent Workshops designed to give families the opportunity to ask questions and gain more hands-on knowledge of Nevada Parent Network resources. Beginning in early fall 2008, parents will have secure online access to their students' test scores for the 2008 Criterion-Referenced Tests (CRT) in Reading, Mathematics and Science.
"We are pleased to be working with the Nevada Department of Education to develop new approaches for communicating assessment results to students and families," said Mark Malaspina, president of The Grow Network/McGraw-Hill. "By providing Nevada parents with timely access to educational resources and test scores, the Parent Network for Nevada represents an important milestone in our effort to engage families around their children's academic growth."
Nevada families will find the following information and resources available on the Parent Network website at www.NVParentNetwork.com:
-- Action plans aligned to the grade level of each student with targeted recommendations and academic resources -- Links, helpful tips, and information about educational options -- Coming this fall: Secure access to each student's CRT results, along with guidance to help families interpret the scores
The Nevada Parent Network also provides these resources and information in Spanish.
