McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of information resources for the scientific and medical communities, today announced the relaunch of Scriver's Online Metabolic & Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease (OMMBID). This encyclopedic resource for medicine and biology provides physicians, geneticists, researchers, students, and educators, online access to the acknowledged leading reference for human genetics and inherited diseases on a new platform with enhanced features, a redesigned interface, and monthly content updates. This newest edition continues the tradition of excellence established by OMMBID and its print predecessor, The Metabolic Basis of Inherited Disease, first published in 1960.

Scriver's OMMBID combines the latest developments in genetics research with improved and continuously updated online access. Users can build their own image libraries, suggest chapter edits, add digital content notes, and conduct full-text or advanced searches - limiting searches to just images or references, for example - to quickly identify content most relevant to their needs. In addition, monthly podcasts highlight new material, while embedded searches provide one-click access to other relevant resources, such as GeneReviews, OMIM, and PubMed.

This edition of Online Metabolic & Molecular Bases of Inherited Disease benefits from the expansion of its preeminent editorial board. Dr. David Valle (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) will serve as the new Editor-in-Chief of OMMBID. He is joined by editors Dr. Arthur Beaudet (Baylor College of Medicine), Dr. Bert Vogelstein (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine), Dr. Kenneth Kinzler (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine), Dr. Stylianos Antonarakis (University of Geneva Medical School), Dr. Andrea Ballabio (University of Naples Federico II). The former Editor-in- Chief of OMMBID, Dr. Charles Scriver (McGill University) together with Dr. William S. Sly (St. Louis University School of Medicine), and Dr. Barton Childs (The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine) will continue to provide guidance as editors emeritus.

"I've been honored to be involved in OMMBID in various editions and formats since 1972," said Dr. Charles Scriver. "We've kept pace with the advances in genetic knowledge with continuing efficiency and practicality, and with this latest release, we're further enhancing the functionality of OMMBID while retaining its editorial excellence. I'm confident that David Valle and his team will continue to push this subject's boundaries and possibilities within this newest incarnation."

"With the proliferation of information available on the Web, the need for authoritative content, particularly in specialized fields such as human genetics, is critical," said Scott Grillo, vice president, Digital Content, McGraw-Hill Professional. "The enhancements to Scriver's OMMBID underscore how we are able to differentiate our content from other resources and provide users with the cutting-edge, scientific research tools they demand."

Scriver's OMMBID is available for individual and institutional subscriptions. The relaunched site also provides non-subscribers with the

option to purchase individual or bundled PDF chapters, while subscribers have access to PDF or HTML print versions of all chapters.

With this latest edition of Scriver's OMMBID, McGraw-Hill will continue to support the OMMBID Blog, an active community that discusses the latest news and developments regarding inherited disorders. Dr. Philippe Campeau continues as the administrator and key contributor for the Blog.
