McGraw-Hill Higher Education, a leading provider of electronic and print learning materials, and ALEKS Corporation, a leader in the creation of Web-based artificially intelligent educational software, today announced the release of a new Prep for Calculus course designed to create a more productive and rewarding learning process for students and instructors. The Prep for Calculus course completes the line of higher education programs now powered with the new ALEKS AI-2 intelligence engine, which makes the course more student-friendly and reduces faculty workload.

Studies conducted in colleges and universities nationwide confirm that most students who use ALEKS courses perform better academically in a variety of subjects than students who take the same courses in conventional lecture settings only. ALEKS higher education math courses cover a range of subjects including Basic Math, Beginning, Intermediate and College Algebra, Precalculus, Trigonometry and Statistics.

The advanced ALEKS AI-2 intelligence engine enhances the Prep for Calculus course with more accurate assessments and greater flexibility in directing student learning. In addition, the course features more than 40 new problem types and a content editor that allows the instructor to remove more than 80 topics, allowing for better curriculum coverage and course customization. A graphing calculator has also been added to the Prep for Calculus course and it can be turned on or off by the instructor. The new ALEKS AI-2 engine is based upon extensive feedback from instructors and students.

"It's critical to McGraw-Hill Higher Education that we continually enhance the learning solutions that drive student achievement," said Ed Stanford, president of McGraw-Hill Higher Education. "The ALEKS courses are outstanding tools for precise, individualized instruction. For students who are challenged by mathematics, we are confident that these new enhancements will help to prepare them for future courses."

"The new Prep for Calculus course allows instructors to better meet the unique learning needs of each student," said Wil Lampros, president of ALEKS Corporation. "User feedback is critical to our success, so we assess each course, understand how students and instructors use the program, and make improvements based on their needs. The new Prep for Calculus course -- as with all of the courses powered by ALEKS AI-2 -- delivers the enhanced benefits our users requested," he added.

Additional higher education courses with the ALEKS AI-2 enhancements are available through McGraw-Hill Higher Education.
