Jamestown Reading Navigator, Glencoe/McGraw-Hill's comprehensive reading intervention program for Grades 6-12, has been selected as a finalist in the CODiE Awards in the "Best Instruction Solution for Special Needs Students" category.
"We are committed to leveraging technology to provide the best educational resources to educators and students," said Steven McClung, president of McGraw-Hill School Solutions Group, which includes Glencoe. "It's an honor to be chosen as a CODiE finalist and a testament to our hard work and innovation."
A reading intervention program designed specifically for middle and high school students, Jamestown Reading Navigator is based on the latest research in adolescent literacy and the company's more than 30 years of experience in reaching adolescent readers. The program incorporates engaging online and print-based content designed to accelerate growth in reading fluency and comprehension skills to help struggling students catch up.
Pilot testing proves the program's effectiveness. During the spring 2006 testing period, the majority of struggling students using Jamestown Reading Navigator improved their Instructional Reading Level and their Independent Reading Level in either one or two months.
"The 2007 CODiE finalists represent real winners, even at this stage of the contest," said Ken Wasch, SIIA president. "Competition is fiercer than ever and that makes selection as a CODiE finalist a major achievement. All the companies on this year's list should feel justifiably proud of their recognition."
Established in 1986, the CODiE Awards celebrate outstanding achievement and vision in the software, digital information and education technology industries. The "Best Instruction Solution for Special Needs Students" category recognizes the best instructional solution specifically designed to benefit students with unique educational needs, including those with physical or learning disabilities.
Through a unique combination of journalist and peer review by more than 219 individuals in the trade press, consulting, education, and IT fields, the CODiE Awards recognize 72 categories of outstanding products and services. This year's 367 finalists were chosen from more than 1,200 entries.
The 2007 CODiE Awards will be presented to the winners at a gala event in San Francisco, CA on April 19. For more information about the 2007 CODiE Awards, visit http://www.siia.net/CODiEs/2007.
