McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of information resources for the scientific and medical communities, today announced the release of Harrison's Practice, an innovative Web, wireless, and PDA tool that answers questions on demand at the point of medical care. The tool was developed in collaboration with Unbound Medicine, a leading provider of knowledge management solutions for healthcare.

With new content from the same team of expert physicians who developed the market-leading Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine, Harrison's Practice contains concise information on diagnosis and management for the most common medical conditions, with continuous updates. Users can scan information quickly to find the most succinct, critical answers to deliver optimal patient care. For more in-depth information on pathophysiology, users have access to the most widely used internal medicine reference, Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine.

"Harrison's Practice is the next generation Harrison's tool for today's busy students, residents, and physicians who need answers on demand delivered to the desktop, PDA, or via wireless devices like the Blackberry™ or the Treo™," said Michael Hays, vice president of McGraw-Hill Professional's Digital group.

The online reference tool includes fully integrated, detailed information on more than 51,000 brand name and generic drugs including pill photos and patient handouts in Spanish and English. In addition, hyperlinks throughout Harrison's Practice enable quick access to the primary literature via PubMed.

"Harrison's Practice's highly structured template, designed by medical information experts, is easily accessible and puts key clinical information one click away at all times," Hays added. "This makes the system predictable, which helps physicians do their jobs more efficiently and effectively. And, they know they are getting the best information through this highly trusted source developed by the best physicians in the world."

McGraw-Hill Professional developed Harrison's Practice in collaboration with Unbound Medicine Inc. Unbound Medicine provided product development expertise and created the underlying Web, PDA and wireless platforms for Harrison's Practice.

"Medical publications with the Harrison's name set the standard for comprehensiveness and high quality," said William Detmer, MD, CEO of Unbound Medicine and consulting editor of Harrison's Practice. "We are delighted to join McGraw-Hill in their goal of establishing innovative ways to make this important information available to clinicians at the point of care."

Harrison's Practice is the latest addition to McGraw-Hill Professional's offering of online medical resources. Other resources include AccessMedicine, an online service that provides access to numerous world-renowned McGraw-Hill medical references; Harrison's Online, providing fast access to the entire text of and images of Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine with daily updates and self-assessment features, and USMLEasy, which delivers web-based practice tests to prepare students for success on the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
