McGraw-Hill Professional, a leading global provider of print and digital reference works for the scientific, technical and medical communities, today announced the addition of video news from ScienCentral, Inc. to AccessScience, its online encyclopedia of science and technology.

Each ScienCentral video will bring a scientific story to life on AccessScience in 1-1/2-minute segments, which are designed for general viewers. Covering the areas of technology, physical sciences, and life sciences, these ScienCentral videos will allow users not only to read about current news in scientific findings and research, but also to view animations as well as interviews with scientists. ScienCentral's scientific advisory board ensures the accuracy of the content, ranging from cheaper DNA testing to the effects of genetics on exercise and "freezing" light for use in quantum computers. Updated several times a month on the AccessScience homepage, the ScienCentral videos will also be available in the Headline News archives.

"The immediacy of video for disseminating news, and its effectiveness in conveying scientific subjects to the general public, make this a natural and exciting development for AccessScience.com," said Michael Hays, vice president of McGraw-Hill Digital. "Whether it's animation that helps to visualize a scientific concept, or an interview with a scientist who is on the cutting edge of the technological frontier, these videos will give the site a whole new dimension."
