McGraw-Hill Higher Education, a leading provider of electronic and print learning materials, and eInstruction, the global leader in response systems, have once again joined forces -- this time, to offer the next generation of student response devices to the college classroom. The new RF Gen2 response units will be available for use in the fall term.
The devices enable students to provide immediate feedback to classroom questions using a touch pad. Responses can be tabulated anonymously and can be helpful in facilitating learning. The new Gen2 student response device includes the following features:
* a larger display screen that displays student answers * the ability to confirm the receipt of an answer * a security function that "masks" each student's response entry * the unit's signal strength
The Gen2 base station and all Gen2 response units are simple to upgrade, allowing institutions to efficiently enhance their classroom technology infrastructure and avoid costly replacements of classroom hardware. In addition, the Gen2 units are compatible with all previous eInstruction higher education RF systems.
In response to user feedback from instructors and students that McGraw-Hill Higher Education provides to eInstruction, software features have been added to the Gen2 system from its award-winning Classroom Performance System (CPS). These features include a PowerPoint Plug-in, an improved data-sorting capability, a comprehensive grade book complement, web-based access to all McGraw-Hill CPS content, and other powerful classroom learning functions.
"The use of personal response system technologies has literally begun to transform our institution," said Zachary Goodell, associate director, Center for Teaching Excellence, Virginia Commonwealth University. "Of these technologies, the Classroom Performance System by eInstruction has proven to be the best for us because of the low learning curve associated with the software and hardware, the versatility of the technology, as well as the exceptional customer service and technical support that they provide."
"McGraw-Hill continues to work closely with eInstruction to enhance this technology and create content for it," said Ed Stanford, president of McGraw-Hill Higher Education. "We are delighted to work with eInstruction to help pioneer this innovative tool that is having a powerful impact in classrooms across the country. We are committed to supporting new technology that improves the teaching and learning experience."
"Our new Gen2 pad has been standardized so it can move with the student if he or she transfers to another school. Furthermore, the device is economical, since we offer a flexible pricing plan, giving students the ability to pay per usage with a cap. All in all, it's an ideal learning solution," added Dr. Darrell Ward, CEO of eInstruction. "Furthermore, our alliance with McGraw-Hill Higher Education provides unmatched service and support to our customers, which further enhances the value proposition for an institution."
