Macmillan/McGraw-Hill Author and Consultant Wins National Science Teachers Association's Highest Honor

Macmillan/McGraw-Hill national science consultant Jo Anne Vasquez has received The National Science Teachers Association's (NSTA) highest honor -- the Robert H. Carleton Award, which recognizes outstanding contributors and leaders in science education at the local, state and national level. Since 1998, Dr. Vasquez has been an author of Macmillan/McGraw-Hill's Science Series. In 2000, she became a professional development consultant for the company, a leading pre-K through Grade 6 publisher of print and technology-based materials.

Dr. Vasquez is a Presidential appointee to the National Science Board, the governing board of the National Science Foundation. The former teacher and science supervisor was the first K-12 educator to be appointed to a seat on the governing board. Dr. Vasquez is also president of the National Science Education Leadership Association. Dr. Vasquez, past president of the National Science Teachers Association, has taught science at all grade levels, and was an associate professor of science education at Arizona State University. In addition, she has served on many state and national education boards and has received numerous awards for her contributions to science education.
