Educational publishers are at the forefront of transforming learning by combining their strength in content with the best of technology, said McGraw-Hill Education President Henry Hirschberg, the keynote speaker at the Software & Information Industry Association's (SIIA) Ed Tech Business Forum held today in New York.

"Those of us in the field of educational publishing aren't waiting for the next technology wave. We are bringing digital solutions to classrooms and professionals worldwide now," Mr. Hirschberg said. "The benefits of technology will lead us to greater productivity, more effective delivery of content and greater profitability. The results will benefit educators, students and communities around the world."

Mr. Hirschberg, addressing nearly 200 publishing and technology company executives, investors and bankers at the premier event for the education technology industry, said that the convergence of technology and content was improving the market for all of the major players in education markets worldwide. By combining technology and content, McGraw-Hill and other companies are:

   * Developing a new generation of products and services with new revenue
     opportunities.
   * Creating a more effective and engaging learning environment for
students and better course-management and assessment tools for
     educators.

Mr. Hirschberg explained how McGraw-Hill Education was adding value to the customer experience through its technology-based products and services. For example, he pointed to McGraw-Hill Education's Grow Network, a company that-with the help of its powerful proprietary technology-recently produced thousands of customized study guides for students in Texas who failed the high school exit exam. The materials provide each student with the tools they need to and pass the exam.

McGraw-Hill Education's new relationship with Cisco Systems, the worldwide leader in networking on the Internet, is another case in which an educational publisher is adding value through the use of technology, Mr. Hirschberg said. He noted that through Cisco's Global Learning Network, McGraw-Hill Higher Education is providing its world-renowned content, delivering online, multimedia-rich higher education courses. Nearly 50 McGraw-Hill online courses in business, economics, math, science and the social sciences are planned for release through 2005.
