McGraw-Hill Higher Education is offering 900 e-textbooks at significantly reduced prices, providing students and professors with an affordable alternative to traditional print texts. In addition to its e-textbooks that span all disciplines, McGraw-Hill is also offering over 9,000 case studies and more than 5,000 readings and articles in a digital format.

College costs have risen across the country due to many factors, including state budget cuts in education. McGraw-Hill e-content is one solution addressing that issue. McGraw-Hill estimates that its e-textbooks, offered through its Primis Online service, can result in savings up to 50 percent off traditional print textbooks. Students have the option to purchase a downloadable file or access their e-textbook through an Internet connection.

"We understand the challenges many students and institutions are facing and are pleased to provide our e-content as a lower cost alternative to traditional print materials," said Ed Stanford, president of McGraw-Hill Higher Education.

"This is amazing stuff," said Rodney Alsup, Ph.D., senior associate dean for the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University. "Faculty can have total control over the content of their course material with the tools available through McGraw-Hill. And it is less expensive for our students compared to buying multiple texts."

McGraw-Hill's Primis Online solution provides the ultimate in flexibility for instructors and students. Not only can full color e-textbooks be downloaded, but also the over 1.5 million pages of textbook content, case studies and other materials can be mixed and matched according to an instructor's specifications. In addition, the customized content is available in print format, providing even more flexibility. From the initial concept to the printed textbook, the entire process can be completed in less than eight weeks with no minimum order.

"I looked at the competition's online site," said David Fricke, Ph.D., a finance professor at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. "After several minutes of frustration, I gave up. With Primis Online, I can get pretty much what I want and when I want it."

Primis Online continues to innovate and provide advantages to educators in traditional four-year institutions, community colleges, and the rapidly growing for-profit career schools. Instructors can upload their own materials into a custom publication, including syllabi, lab worksheets, study materials, and homework assignments to further reflect their personal creativity, approach, and individuality.

"McGraw-Hill Higher Education has led the industry with print and digital solutions that enhance teaching and learning," Stanford said. "Through Primis Online, faculty have wide-ranging flexibility to tailor McGraw-Hill content to their courses, publish their own materials, control textbook costs, and reach students in alternative ways in digital or print formats."

Ginny Moffat, vice-president of Course Content Delivery for McGraw-Hill Higher Education, added: "Through direct feedback from our customers, we have developed a more robust and easy-to-use custom publishing solution for instructors, who can draw content instantly from our database and build a book tailored to their course goals. The added flexibility of print or digital e- textbook delivery gives colleges and universities the opportunity to reach not only students on campus, but also coast to coast."

Primis Online is one of the many affordable and effective web-based learning solutions offered by McGraw-Hill Higher Education. Others include: ALEKS, a Web-based artificial intelligence tutor that customizes learning to individual needs; PageOut, a leading Web-based course management tool; and GradeSummit, an innovative online study tool that enables students to measure their knowledge level of a particular subject with references to specific texts.
