Glencoe/McGraw-Hill, the leading provider of secondary school materials in the nation, has been awarded a Special 25th Anniversary Classic Telly Award for Excellence in Educational Video Programs for What's Math Got to Do With It?, a math video series designed to motivate students and engage them in a wealth of relevant real-world applications of mathematics.
"We take great pride in developing curriculum resources that help teachers improve student achievement," said Steve McClung, president of Glencoe/McGraw- Hill. "We are pleased that this Glencoe mathematics video series has been recognized as an educational tool that helps students see, understand, and appreciate how math is used in their world."
What's Math Got to Do With It? is a 15-episode series correlated to all three of Glencoe's leading middle school mathematics programs: Mathematics: Applications and Concepts, MathScape: Seeing and Thinking Mathematically, and Impact Mathematics. The student-friendly hosts guide viewers through relevant situations in which math plays an integral role. Interviews with individuals who use math in their daily lives and careers reinforce the need for a solid understanding of math, as well as its role in the real world. The videos were created and produced in association with One Nation Films, LLC, a video and DVD production company that specializes in dramatic and documentary programs for the educational television and video market.
The Telly Awards competition was founded in 1980 to recognize outstanding non-network and cable TV commercials as well as film and video productions. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Telly Awards, a special one-time Classic Telly Awards competition was held to honor the best work of the past 25 years. The annual competition receives more than 10,000 entries annually representing all 50 states and many countries around the world. Entries are judged against a high standard of excellence by a leading panel of industry professionals.
