McGraw-Hill Education has announced that it will sponsor the Council of Urban Boards of Education's (CUBE) new annual Excellence in Education award. CUBE is the urban arm of the National School Boards Association's (NSBA) National Affiliate program.
The annual Excellence in Education award will recognize a school board that has exemplified outstanding governance of urban public schools. In conjunction with the award, McGraw-Hill Education will donate $5,000 to the scholarship fund of the school district served by the selected board.
Harold McGraw III, chairman, president and chief executive officer of The McGraw-Hill Companies, announced McGraw-Hill Education's sponsorship of the award at CUBE's 35th Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina earlier this month.
"This award is a way each year to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of an outstanding urban school board and help its students continue their education," said Mr. McGraw. "The McGraw-Hill Companies shares the mission of the Council of Urban Boards of Education of making sure students have the knowledge and skill sets to fulfill their potential and to succeed, and we are passionate about and fully committed to bringing our best resources to meet the needs of urban school districts."
"For more than 35 years, CUBE has helped urban school districts strive for excellence by providing opportunities for school board members to gain the knowledge and skills they need to be effective," said David L. Thomas, Jr., president of CUBE. "We commend McGraw-Hill Education's support in recognizing the efforts of outstanding boards that volunteer their time to make a difference in public education."
The first award will be presented at the 2004 CUBE conference to be held in San Antonio, TX. The honored school board will be selected from the nominations submitted to a panel of distinguished leaders in the education community formed by NSBA and CUBE.
