McGraw-Hill Professional, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, announces the release of Sarbanes-Oxley Risk and Control Training, a new, interactive online course designed to ensure that all managers who are responsible for complying with the financial reporting requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act have the proper knowledge and training.

The Sarbanes-Oxley Act, passed into law last year, introduced sweeping reforms for public companies and requires CEOs and CFOs to sign and file a new form of certification with the SEC for each quarterly and annual SEC report and must assert whether their company's financial statements are true, complete and fairly stated. Section 404 of the law requires an annual evaluation of internal controls and procedures for financial reporting. A company must document its existing controls that have a bearing on financial reporting, test them for efficacy, and report on gaps and deficiencies.

McGraw-Hill's Sarbanes-Oxley Risk and Control Training provides corporations with a training and assessment tool to ensure that employees have training and skills in the pertinent areas covered in Section 404, such as internal controls, fraud awareness, control and risk assessment. The online course is module-based and self-paced (average length of time: 2-3 hours) and an exam is given upon completion with a certificate that is proof of training. With the verification of training and certification that managers passed the course exam, CEOs and CFOs can more accurately attest to the adequacy of their staff's understanding of internal financial controls. Ideally suited for companies with widely dispersed financial and management staffs, the course can be delivered through the Internet or a company's intranet. Sarbanes-Oxley Risk and Control Training is being sold as a site license and can be easily customized to meet a corporation's unique needs.

"Our course has been created to allow corporations to better manage their business risk, minimize the possibilities of 'surprises' in financial statements, and heighten the awareness of the accountability and responsibility associated with all levels of financial reporting," said Philip Ruppel, Vice President and Group Publisher at McGraw-Hill Professional. "Upon completion of the course, a company can be assured that it is providing employees with training that will help their organization to be compliant with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act."
